There is a Book for That

Hello friends,

If there is one thing I absolutely love is books.

Through the pages of a book, I can travel the world. I can visit unknown places. I can be a princess, a knight, a pirate. I can travel through time and space.

Reading takes me to unknown places.

Through the pages of a book I learn to be courageous, I learn to be brave.
I learn to value life, friends, I learn to love.

Children who have a hard time reading in first grade will most likely have issues when they are in fourth grade, which is when they need to read to learn. The truth is once kids fall behind in their reading it is really hard to get them back on track.

I know as a parent I want my child to succeed, to be better than I was. I do not know everything and I don’t have all the resources in the world. However, I know something that is FREE that can help my children: “I can read to them” and I do it often!

Reading time in our house is a fun time. We cuddle up and we read stories, we laugh, we cry, we wonder WHY did that happen with our favorite characters. We connect with each other and with our books.

I know that reading doesn’t come easy to every parent, for some of us reading was hard- my dad was never a good reader he learned by listening and he was able to teach us the love of reading through storytelling. He wouldn’t read us the book, he would introduce us to the book and he would tell us the story, the best way he knew how, and he would allow us to read the book and re-create the story to him.

I came from a low-income family who instilled in me the love of reading, the love of learning.

I am here today, to share this gift with all of you. The gift of learning.

As an educator I feel that there is a gap between schools and home.

I would love to help close that gap. Did you know that “children from poorest homes are almost a year behind their middle-class counterparts by the time they start school”?  (ProLiteracy, 2018).

I found this powerful picture. Imagine this when kids read they learn! Look at a difference 20 minutes a day can make in a year!

Friends, I believe social media is a great tool to close the learning gap. I feel that if I can empower parents they are more likely to believe that they can make a difference.

I know that literate and non-literate parents believe strongly in education for their children. As a mother myself, I want to empower you with the tools to be an advocate for your child’s education.

My dear friends, Education is important. Being able to read, write, and speak is a tool for success.

I hope that this new series #thereisabookforthat can help empower you with a great suggestions of books for you to read with your child.

I will be sharing reading strategies that are easy to use and implement in your daily routines!

I am an advocate for literacy. Whether you are 0 or 125. Reading is important!

Please join me in this journey.

Listen to the videos, share them with a friend.
Send me a message 🙂

If you have any literacy questions I can help you answer them.  If I can’t answer I will research and find someone that can!

Here is a great resource for Making the Case: Linking Adult Literacy with K-12 Literacy.

Without further ado here is the first video- Introduction to There is a Book For That.

I am passionate about education. I am passionate about books.

I hope that I am able through social media, share that love with all of you and I hope that together we can achieve more. That we can be more for ourselves and for our children!

Please share this post with someone who can benefit from it!
