Tools for Assessment

Teaching is a lot of fun but learning can be tough. We all remember those lessons that were really hard to understand. For kids, it can be frustrating saying out loud “I don’t get it”. I have worked with my own children and when they don’t get it, they can become disengaged, frustrated or they avoid the subject at hand.
The same can help in a classroom.

Students do not like to show weakness out loud. Many times frustration with the work becomes avoidance, disruptions.
Well. There is a way to avoid the negative behavior. It is being aware of the problem before it becomes an issue.
I have seen this tool before so I adapted and create my own.  I hope this handy little tool can help you in your classroom or at your home.

I created them in color and black and white. All you have to do is print it and laminate. Use zip ties to tie them together.
When completing an activity students can just raise them up showing the color that they are on it. Or they can leave them at their desks showing you in what color they can relate to.
At home, you can give one to your child and when given a task and they can show you their colors.

4- Purple means I got this, I am ready to help others complete the task too.
3- Green means I got this I can do it myself without help.
2- Yellow means I could use a bit of help. I understand it but don’t know how to do it alone.
1- Red means I need help can you please help me.

If you see a red get ready to help the student who is struggling! If you see a purple those students can help others! Great way to create a safe community for students to help and get help!

Remember this is a tool for students to quietly share with you how they are feeling about the task at hand.
If a few students are struggling you might have to consider reteaching or pairing students and working with specific groups.
The goal is to ensure that everyone reaches a comfortable level where they can do the work themselves!

I hope this tool helps you be successful!

Hope you enjoy it!

Much love to you!
