“I am not Trash”- Lesson I learned from Toy Story 4

A lesson I learned from Toy Story 4

This past week we took the kids to watch Toy Story 4 at the movie theater.

As a mom I have watched all other Toy Story movies, I have watched most of Pixar movies, in fact, I have watched them multiple times each. When we went to see Toy Story 4 I was emotionally invested as my kids (yeah, maybe a bit more than them).

I won’t give any spoilers other than this sentence “I am trash”. With that being said, I must say it is a great movie and if you have enjoyed the other Toy Story movies, then you must go see this movie!

On our drive home…

Now, the biggest lesson I learned from this movie happened on our drive home.
As we were driving home, my 5-year-old yelled: “I am trash”.

So, my husband said to her “don’t ever say that about yourself, sweety, God created you and you are the most important person to Him in this world, you are not trash”.

Those words deeply touched my heart. I have to admit, no matter how much I do, how much I help, how much I study, how much I accomplish at the end of the day I feel it is not enough, that I am not enough, that I am not good enough, that I belong in the trash. I know I am not the only one with feeling such as these.

My husband’s words pierced through my heart with so much love and compassion and it touched me so deeply that I even got tears in my eyes.

The truth I learned…

Here is the truth that I learned at that very moment: “even if I don’t do anything right in the world, even if I don’t contribute to anything on this earth. My creator loves me so much, He searches for me, He cries for me. Even when I might feel like trash, I am wonderfully made and just by existing I bring him joy.” The movie and its message allowed me to connect this truth to my life.

Therefore, feeling like trash is a LIE. I am not trash, I might feel like trash sometimes because my actions could’ve been better or for choices I’ve made had consequences that I didn’t enjoy, but I am not trash. I am loved.

I am loved not by what I do, not by what I think. I am loved by who I am. My creator (God) loves me.

In fact, He (God) loves you too. After He created us, He (God) looked over all He made, and He saw that it was very good (Genesis 1).
Now, my dear friends remember: “Our deeds do not determine God’s love towards us, our BEING does.

Our actions will follow according to His word (Bible) not because of duty but because we accept His love towards us and we want to demonstrate our love towards Him. It is not our job to judge one another. It is not our duty to condemn each other. We are called to LOVE our neighbor as we LOVE ourselves.

You are loved…

The most important lesson I learned this week is that I AM NOT TRASH, I AM LOVED.

If you have the opportunity to watch Toy Story 4, go and watch it and remember that YOU ARE NOT TRASH, YOU ARE LOVED, YOU ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT PERSON TO GOD THIS VERY MOMENT. Don’t believe me? Ask HIM yourself.

I pray blessings upon your life this very moment. I pray that God opens the eyes of your heart and allows you to feel HIS LOVE towards you!

Much love to all of you my dear friends.

Raquel
