Last updated: January 1, 2025  ·  Sophia James Education LLC  ·  Missouri, United States
Please read these Terms of Use carefully before using our website or enrolling in any program. By using our website or purchasing any service, you agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use our services.

1. Acceptance of Terms

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Sophia James Education LLC website located at www.sophiajameseducation.com and all related services, including our reading comprehension clubs, private tutoring, and digital products (collectively, the "Services").

By accessing our website, booking a discovery call, or enrolling in any program, you confirm that you are at least 18 years of age, have the legal authority to enter into this agreement on behalf of yourself and any child you enroll, and agree to be bound by these Terms.

2. Our Services

Sophia James Education LLC provides the following services:

  • Reading Comprehension Clubs — live online group sessions for children ages 8–14, led by Dr. Raquel DeSouza via the Moodle platform with BigBlueButton integration.
  • Private Tutoring — one-on-one online sessions tailored to individual student needs.
  • Digital & Physical Products — educational planners, curriculum materials, and lifestyle products available through our shop.

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any service at any time with reasonable notice to enrolled families. If a service is discontinued after payment has been made, affected families will receive a pro-rated refund.

3. Eligibility & Parental Responsibility

Our reading clubs are designed for children ages 8–14. All accounts must be created and managed by a parent or legal guardian who is at least 18 years of age.

As a parent or guardian, you are responsible for:

  • Ensuring your child participates in sessions in a safe, appropriate environment
  • Providing accurate information about your child's age and reading level during enrollment
  • Supervising your child's use of the Moodle platform as appropriate for their age
  • Ensuring your child treats other students and Dr. DeSouza with respect during all sessions
  • Keeping your account login credentials secure and confidential

4. Enrollment & Payment

Membership

Monthly memberships are billed on a recurring basis. By enrolling as a member, you authorize Sophia James Education LLC to charge your payment method on a monthly basis until you cancel. You may cancel at any time before your next billing date by contacting us at the email address below.

Single cycle enrollment

Single-cycle enrollments are charged as a one-time payment covering one complete book cycle of 6–8 sessions. There is no automatic renewal for single-cycle enrollments.

Payment methods

We accept payment via Stripe (credit/debit card) and PayPal. All payments are processed securely by these third-party providers. We do not store your payment card details.

Pricing

Current pricing is displayed on our website. We reserve the right to change pricing at any time. Members will be given at least 30 days notice before any price change takes effect on their subscription.

Founding member rate

Families who enroll at the founding member rate are locked into that rate for as long as their membership remains active without interruption. If a founding member cancels and later re-enrolls, the standard rate at that time will apply.

5. Code of Conduct

Our reading clubs are a safe, respectful, and joyful space for children. We expect all participants — children and parents alike — to uphold the following standards:

Kindness, respect, and active listening are the foundation of every session. Every child deserves to feel safe to share their ideas without judgment.

  • Children must treat all group members and Dr. DeSouza with courtesy and respect
  • Bullying, harassment, or disruptive behavior of any kind will not be tolerated
  • Children should come to sessions having completed the assigned reading when possible
  • Parents must not coach children or intervene during live sessions
  • Participants must not record, share, or distribute any portion of a session without written consent from all parties

Sophia James Education LLC reserves the right to remove a student from a session or terminate an enrollment without refund if conduct standards are seriously or repeatedly violated, following a warning where appropriate.

6. Intellectual Property

All content on the Sophia James Education website and within our programs — including but not limited to discussion guides, curriculum materials, session outlines, written content, logos, and imagery — is the intellectual property of Sophia James Education LLC and is protected by applicable copyright law.

You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, publicly display, or create derivative works from any of our materials without prior written permission.

Purchasing access to our services grants you a personal, non-transferable license to use our materials for your own child's educational purposes only. This license does not permit commercial use, redistribution, or sharing with persons outside your immediate family.

7. Recordings & Privacy in Sessions

Sophia James Education LLC does not record any live sessions. This is a deliberate privacy protection for all children in each group.

Parents and students are strictly prohibited from recording any portion of any session without the prior written consent of Sophia James Education LLC and all other participants. Violation of this policy is grounds for immediate termination of enrollment.

Session chat and communication within the Moodle platform is supervised by Sophia James Education LLC and governed by our Privacy Policy.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

Our services are provided "as is" and "as available." While we are committed to delivering high-quality educational experiences, Sophia James Education LLC makes no warranty that:

  • Our services will meet every specific learning outcome you have in mind
  • Sessions will always be free from technical interruptions
  • Results will be uniform across all students

Every child is different. We bring our full expertise and care to every session, but individual outcomes depend on many factors including the child's effort, consistency of attendance, and prior reading experience.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by Missouri law, Sophia James Education LLC shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of our services, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of revenue, or any harm resulting from third-party platform outages (BigBlueButton, Moodle, Stripe, etc.).

Our total liability to you for any claim arising from our services shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 30 days preceding the claim.

10. Governing Law
