I am back.

Dear friends,
In the last few months I have been a bit disconnected so I wanted to give you a little update.
First I had to resign since we were moving.
I think it is a blessing that I get to stay home, however, it is not for me. I love teaching and being away from the classroom has been difficult. As I have done in the past, whenever I have the chance to be “at home” I try to do something to improve myself and my skills. With this move is no different.
After teaching ELA/S.Studies for 4 years I discovered that I can truly use my passion for reading and writing to do something productive. I want to change the world through the power of reading and literacy.
I believe that everyone has the right to be able to read and to write. It goes above and beyond a right. I hope that everyone has a passion for reading and writing as it opens a world of opportunity.

With this love for world literacy I decided to go back to school. Yes, you heard it correctly. I am back in school, this time I am pursuing a doctorate degree in Reading and Literacy. I hope that through education I can become a positive voice in the world of literacy. I hope that I can make a difference in the world, one student at a time.
I have completed my first course and in a week I will start my second class. It has been so rewarding, yes, it is challenging especially since I started in the middle of a move, however, I feel that the knowledge that I am gaining will help me be a strong positive voice in education. I believe that through hard work and education I will be able to continue to reach students and help them to love to read and write.

Also, I have been working on the blog. I used to tell my students that they needed to write daily. How can I preach if I can’t walk the talk? The blog started as a promise to myself that I would write daily just as I required from my students.

We went on vacation to NJ and Florida. It was really awesome to spend time with family. As we grow older I feel that we are learning to appreciate our family in new different ways. I feel that we are learning to accept things that we can’t change and we are truly learning to love unconditionally and that is just amazing.
We are trying to learn as much as we can from our parents as they are getting older. We find ourselves more worried about them and valuing all the work they have done to raise us to be who we are up until this point.
(Moms and dads we love you and value you and we want to learn everything from you. Time is limited so we want to make sure that we stay closer and closer everyday).

We moved overseas. The trip was extremely long. The kids and dogs did extremely well considering the long hours of wait and the unexpected little hick ups along the way.

We are still in a hotel room and adapting to our new routine and surroundings.
Overall my friends we are doing great and can’t wait to set up our new house. In the meantime I have school to keep me busy, I have the blog. I hope we can stay connected while we transition.

I ate quite a bit of unhealthy food and breads in the last few days but today I woke up ready to put myself first.
We went to a long walk downtown. I bought a new stroller with an attachment for our little prince ( I will post about that later because it is truly an awesome stroller). The long walk and the fresh air and scenery helped me refocus. I came home and I wrote my heart out. I decided to continue my healthy living, I found a local gym that I will be attending. I am really excited about the future. I am really glad that you take time from your busy schedule to keep up with me.

If I may ask, continue to pray for a smooth transition for us.
With love,
Raquel
